Half in sunlight, half in shadow
(these two photos were taken with some people in direct sunlight and others in shadow.
So I scanned the photos twice;
once over-light to bring out the features of the people in shadow,
and another time over-dark to bring out the features of the people in direct sunlight)

Bipin and his mother
Manamaiju, Kathmandu, October 2015
I first took Bipin’s photo back in 2002, when he was bundled on his mother’s back while she was bringing in laundry. Now it is 13 years later, and Bipin is 14.
(I realize that in all this time, I have misplaced his mothers name in my notes—I plan to remedy that on my next walk-through)

Kiran and Arati
Balaju, Kathmandu, 2004
On a cool winters day, I was coming out of my friends building and caught friends Kiran and Arati in the sunlight just outside.

Peeking into the nursery classroom
Niharika Shishu Kunja High School, Balaju Bypass, Kathmandu, September 22nd, 2015
Sarada was helping her nursery students with their writing of Nepali numbers,
when I looked up and saw these two girls peeking in through the window from next door.

My shadow, Ramesh
Dadagaun, Kathmandu 2005
The afternoon sun was low, casting a warm glow. Looking around at the colors it lent the surroundings, I thought I'd take a self-portrait of sorts with my shadow thrown on a wall. While I was fiddling with the focus, Ramesh had followed me down, and walked up in his plaid cholo.

(Ramesh’s image above is from a rather smallish scan of the photo. I had to enlarge the image a little, which is why it may look a little blurry/pixelly)
Another photo of Ramesh, on a warmer day.
